House and Fogou – nearest village Sancreed. From Penzance site4 is signposted by DoE from A30 at Lower Drift. When you reach Drift take a right marked Sancreed, before you reach Sancreed head up a narrow lane. The car park is just beyond Brane Farm. Then walk past the old vehicles heading towards the field and it is just beyond that. It is possibly Neolithic. The first huts were made of timber around 200BCbut by the first century before Christ; these had been replaced by the stone ones that we see today. The Fogou is very impressive, 65 feet long. The site was abandoned in the Roman period; use varies from storage to ritual.
